There are more than 21 million veterans and active service men and women in the United States. And up to half of them have either visible or invisible wounds of war, from bullet wounds, severe burns, limb loss, PTSD, depression, substance abuse, and other health issues.
Every day, across the United States, approximately 4.6 million first responders stand ready to answer the call of duty. They face a wide range of challenges, from severe weather events and chemical emergencies to violent crime, shootings, fires, accidents, life-or death rescues, acts of terrorism, etc.
For military and first responders, repeated exposure to traumatic events results in PTSD, vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, secondary PTSD, depression, substance abuse, anxiety and other physical, emotional, and behavioral outcomes.
That’s quite a price to pay, for themselves and for their families.
The Bobby Henline Foundation plans activities to reconnect, promote camaraderie and friendship, and to help each individual find value and purpose in their lives.
